Heart-melting Tamil movie from the successful director Mysskinn, who already directed blockbuster hits "Chithiram Pesuthadi" and "Anjathe". Unlike the other two movies wherein the story revolved around rowdies, kidnapping and violence, this is thoroughly a different plot for him. This film has definitely helped Mysskinn to come out of the monotony.
Two different characters Bhaskar and Akhilesh go in search of beloved mom. Bhaskar is a "mentally young" character who manages to escape from a lunatic asylum whereas Akhilesh is a young student who skips his educational tour to get a glimpse of his mother. Interesting sequences lead them to join hands in their noble journey. During their journey they come across some interesting and emotional characters with the right mixture of fun. But when they reach their ultimate destination what happens? This is what you have to watch in a theatre.
Mysskinn has played the role of Baskar to perfection. No over-action, no unwanted fight sequences, no shouting, etc. Master Ashwathram as Akhilesh has shown remarkable maturity in his performance. The way he dodges Bhaskar to get into a bus alone and the way he ultimately decides to join him back, he deserves a big applause for his measured expression.
Many small characters in the movie have made deep impact like the schoolgirl in bicycle, lorry driver, bike duo, limping man, sex worker, etc. Each of them make our heart harden for a moment before the story proceeds to the next character. Cinematographer Mahesh has been a big plus point in the movie.
Finally, the real hero of the film, Maestro Ilayaraja. Though there is less scope for him in the movie to show his skills, with the characters and situations changing at a rapid speed, he has done remarkably well to keep us in the groove. In a story like "Azhagi" where the emotion is focussed on a few characters he has done tremendously well, in fact better than this, which is not a strange thing for a maestro like him. But, to have an impact in this kind of rapid movie is a champion stuff indeed.
Altogether, a great movie with an array of impressive characters, subtle humour and finally a perfect finishing touch.
